"Dr. Spellman's resolve and commitment to bring about change and purpose in the lives of her clients are evident, as I have seen and experienced first hand. I was overwhelmed to see the transformation that had taken place in so many lives. ... I truly believe that her page in history will read "One who cared enough to show God's love, one who dared enough to believe the impossible."

The National Church of God in Washington, D.C., and Peniel of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, have the same focus: seeing men and women, individually and in families, healed and made whole through the power of Jesus Christ and the anointing of the Holy Ghost. Thus it is only natural that we should be in partnership together in this vital, Scripture-mandated business of recycling lives for the kingdom of God.

Never before in the history of our nation has the curse and consequences of sin been so dramatic. Alcohol and drug abuse have reached epidemic proportions and these evils are destroying countless men and women in our society. On the other hand, never before has the hand of God been more evident in delivering people from bondage. I have seen firsthand what God is doing through the life-restoring ministry of Peniel. Their trained personnel and professional services, housed in a beautiful setting, provide a residential ministry and gives the kind of focused care necessary for ministering to people with special needs.

Drs. Harold and Marion M. Spellman are choice servants of Christ who have been raised up in these last days to do this miraculous work for God. As the guiding visionaries of Peniel. They founded the ministry on Scriptural principles for the purpose of bringing persons bound by drug dependencies and alcohol to total healing and well-being through the Word of God. They have successfully ministered to countless people who are making a valuable contribution to the work of the Kingdom today.

For the past 12 years, we at the National Church have referred people with special needs to Peniel. They, in turn, have sent many of’ their students who are in recovery to our church for discipleship and to our National Bible College. Some have interned on our staff. Both of the Spellmans serve on the National Bible College Board of Directors. We are extremely happy with our partnership in ministry. Drs. Harold and Marion Spellman are anointed gospel preachers who never fail to bless our people. I could cite many examples of men and women who have successfully recovered from previously wasted lives and have received spiritual direction through Peniel. I encourage you to support Peniel, a Church of God facility, in a financial way. Your support will go a long way in meeting a critical need in the body of Christ and in society in general.

For a number of years the young people of the Church of God have reached out to help the hurting masses of America through their Winterfest ministry. They have given to the homeless, to those destitute in inner cities, to the hungry who fill the streets of America, and to those other masses who need Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Savior. They have done this through the Winterfest Challenge offering. This freewill offering is given by young people of the Church of God attending Winterfests throughout the nation.

As a part of their Winterfest Challenge offering, the young people of the Church of God gave $12,000 to Peniel in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. This exciting ministry founded by Drs. Harold and Marion M. Spellman, has reached people with alcohol and drug dependency for many years. The program is one of the most successful in the entire nation. The great reason for its success has been the dedication of its leadership and their total dependency upon God to provide the power for setting people free from their bondage, as well as the power to supply the needs of this great institution to continue the work God has laid before it.

Church of God young people rose in Winterfest to be a part of that exciting challenge. Not only were they able through Winterfest offerings to minister to the inner city of our nation through the establishment of a Master’s Commission program, but they also reached out to those who are victims of sin and the grip of Satan, through giving to Peniel. Peniel has made an impact upon our society, and the church owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Peniel. I have been privileged to minister at Peniel and observe the tremendous difference it is making in the lives of people. People whose addictions have been so powerful that they literally have wrecked their lives, families, careers and futures have become a part of the healing ministry of Peniel.

Peniel not only offers professional counseling and lifestyle reformation but offers a discipleship walk and development with Jesus Christ as well. Drs. Harold and Marion M. Spellman are committed to this. I appreciate the young people of the Church of God so much for reaching out and showing they care. I believe the young people were willing to do this for many reasons, not the least of which is that they have seen the devastating effects of alcohol and drug dependency in the lives of their peers. By the gift of this offering, the young people of the Church of God are saying we care and we want to make a difference. Thank you, Peniel, for providing a door of opportunity for our young people to touch others.

It was a distinct privilege to visit Peniel and enjoy such a 'parade of ministry'. My heart was so touched by what we experienced first hand. You and your husband are to be commended for such faithful, committed and long term devotion to this important ministry. May God continue to give you strength and continued anointing to make a difference in the lives of so many. It is an honor to know we are partners for this awesome ministry.

God is blessing your ministry in a powerful way. Thank you for your passion and burden to restore those who have fallen to the snare of the enemy. Great days are ahead for you and Peniel.

God has set Peniel in this region to fill a gap in ministry. They have a unique ministry of restoration to the total person - spirit, soul and body. The graduates re-enter their lives as a whole individual, ready to take on the challenges of life. I have met men and women who have successfully turned their lives completely around with the help of Drs. Harold and Marion Spellman. Thank God for Peniel and for the difference it is making in our world!

As we watch the evening news, much of it cannot be labeled "good news." I would like to report some good news. In Johnstown, Pennsylvania, there is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program called Peniel. This program, under the direction of Drs. Marion and Harold Spellman, is licensed by the Department of Health, Office of Drug/Alcohol Addiction Programs, and is a residential treatment facility that offers help for male and female substance abusers 18 years and older.

During the 12- to 18-month treatment period, abusers receive help in overcoming their addictions and learning how to live effective, productive lives as contributing members of their communities. Now that’s good news.

PENIEL is a nonprofit organization. They have an effective no-nonsense, intensive approach to treatment; using Bible therapy and a comprehensive individualized treatment plan for each resident.

To read about the outstanding success rate and what God accomplishes through these dedicated servants is heartwarming; however, to know them personally is most rewarding. Throughout our board discussions and deliberations, one senses Dr. Spellman’s contagious love for people and heartbeat for ministry. Both she and Dr. Harold Spellman are credentialed ministers with the Church of God. They have earned the respect of their residents, office staff and colleagues.

Not only does PENIEL work with the abusers, but they believe family involvement in the client’s treatment is one of the most crucial factors to his successful recovery. This program has salvaged multiplied hundreds of individuals since opening its doors in 1980. I thank God that the Spellmans with their faithful and qualified staff took this giant step of faith and continue to be used of God to help people around the country

What we experienced when I brought a group from our church to visit Peniel was overwhelming. The tour of the facility; the living testimonies; and the dedication of the skilled Spirit-led faculty and staff were more arresting than we could have imagined. How grateful I am for a place called Peniel that is bringing about miraculous change in lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is a place whose mission calls to others outside its Johnstown, Pennsylvania location to join in its fulfillment.

Peniel is truly a place where people can “come face to face with God and have their life preserved”. I was privileged to attend a Peniel Graduation and was touched to see the many lives that have been transformed by the power of God. Only God can help individuals bury the past and gain hope to see an unlimited future.

God has tremendously gifted Dr.’s Harold & Marion Spellman with a special anointing to lead the lost from a world of devastation and self-destruction into the arms of a loving and forgiving God.

Peniel is truly an extension of the hand of God that enables the staff to administer His healing touch in a way no one else can.
